Today, I headed south across the interior of Oregon from Cascade Locks, on the northern edge of the state, to Klamath Falls at the southern end with a stop at Crater Lake National Park on the way. Overall, it was a pretty scenic drive. The first 20 miles or so on I-84 was probably the most spectacular scenery I've ever seen on an interstate highway. From there, it was still a pretty drive, especially approaching Mt. Hood (sadly, there was no place to pull aside).
I left my motel at around 7:15am this morning. I arrived at Crater Lake at around 12:30 and then toured the park for a couple of hours. Sadly, it was cold (about 50 degrees), rainy, and very cloudy so I couldn't appreciate the full majesty of the park. Nevertheless, it was very beautiful.
After leaving Crater Lake, the weather conditions got much better and by the time I arrived in Klamath Falls (just 60 miles from Crater Lake), it was a nice temperature and sunny.
Tomorrow, it's on to Lassen Volcanic National Park where I'll be camping (don't think I'll be able to post from there so next post is likely Sunday).
