Yesterday (posting this morning since I did not have serviceable wifi last night at the hostel), I drove from East Glacier Park, MT to Lake Louise, AB. I didn't get as early a start as I would have liked, leaving the hostel just before 9:00am. My first step in this trip was crossing into Canada, which went pretty smoothly although I've noticed that these two crossings had more intense scrutiny than my flying to France last month.
After crossing into Canada, I stopped at Waterton Lakes National Park, which is the Canadian side of Glacier National Park. I really liked Waterton Lakes as it is as pretty as Glacier but with less traffic.
After stopping at Waterton Lakes, it was on to Lake Louise. I stopped quickly for lunch at an A&W in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Soon after, I missed a turn (my stop at Waterton Lakes was not in my direction, I could not use my phone GPS, and I was looking for a nonexistent sign to Calgary) which probably added around an hour to my trip (although it was a pretty area). I continued on to Lake Louise, arriving at my hostel around 7:00pm. Despite the bad wifi, the hostel is quite nice (although pricey for a dorm-style hostel). I then went out to Lake Louise, which is spectacular.
After seeing Lake Louise, I then had dinner at a restaurant (the Lake Louise Family Restaurant, I believe), one of the few somewhat affordable places around. My hostel also has a somewhat affordable restaurant but it had a long line. I may try that tonight.
I'm at breakfast right now about to head into Banff and to explore the Icefields. More about that either tonight (if I can get wifi) or tomorrow.
